Teenage Stress (Part 1)

Many teenagers today are stressed out by varying factors. While stress is a very subjective matter i.e. something that you find stressful might not be stressful to someone else, it is something that everyone experiences. Teenagers who are at the peak of hormonal changes may find these situations hard to adapt to but nonetheless, it is very normal.

One of the main factors that cause students to stress is studies. To most, studying is a chore; a mundane task that they should be rid of as soon as possible. They don’t find joy in discovering new concepts or reading a History textbook, although there are some who might. Adding fuel to the fire, many parents continuously instil into their children that studies are everything in life. Without a good degree, they would not be able to get a job that pays well and etc. It is nothing new, especially when we live in an Asian community. Parents may force their children to enter the science stream and to take subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Physics in hopes of them becoming doctors, engineers or anything related to the STEM field. Children with hopes of being professional athletes or maybe something related to fine arts are shot down immediately with brooding questions. How will you make a living out of that? Aren’t there enough actors in the world? It demoralises them and brings them down, something that shouldn’t be happening at their age.
