If there was one thing that Jasmine's parents was best at, it would be concocting surprises. Even though Camila and Jason Lindt were in their late thirties, they still took joy from occasionally surprising their fifteen years old daughter. It was something Jasmine had gotten used to after so long.
They would surprise her on her birthday with all sort of crazy things, like that one year where they decided that getting a clown for her tenth birthday party would be a good idea. She had been mentally scarred after that and developed a not-so-great phobia of clowns.
"Jas, come down here, we've got a surprise for you!" Jasmine sighed as she heard her mum holler from down the stairs. It can't have been good news, especially when she sounded much too cheerful.
Getting up, she padded down the wooden stairs to the living room where her parents were waiting. Her parents were never serious people, in fact, they looked like they could hardly contain their excitement.
"What is it?" She asked suspiciously, taking a seat from across the coffee table to face them. Her father spoke first, "Okay, you know how I've been talking about getting you a puppy?" She eyed her father carefully, "Uh huh..."
"Well that's not what I'm going to do, but I've got even better news," he chirped. She sighed, "This can't be great news." Her father shrugged, "Puppies make messes, this isn't a mess. Remember how I told you how much I hated my job?"
"Yeah, you've been saying that ever since you got the job, and that was over ten years ago," she said before realising, "You got fired didn't you? Oh my God, what are we going to do? How are we going to pay the bills?" Her mum worked at the florist down the road, but that didn't pay much. Her dad had a high-paying job as a sales manager but he loathed going to work.
"Calm down," her mum laughed, "Hear him out."
"I didn't get fired Jas, I got a new job in Texas!"
She almost choked on her own saliva, "We live in Arkansas!"
"We're moving!"
"What?!"
