Strange Encounter (Part 4)

Lily had found out about my keeping Silver eventually but she had promised not to breathe a word if I brought Silver to see her. I was afraid Silver might harm her, the wolf never did too well with strangers; always growling whenever he heard a rap on the door or voices outside. My worries were not well-founded it seemed for Silver took to her almost immediately. They had their fun and Lily kept her promise.

Eventually, the day came when Silver would go back into the dense forests lying outside the borders of our small village. My beloved wolf seemed to realise that it was time for us to part ways after a year together. The long summer nights and short winter days spent together with Silver were some of my most treasured memories. I cried as I hugged the wolf, unwilling to part with my friend. My small arms could barely reach around my wolf's large neck, but Silver laid down to ease my efforts. I kissed the top of Silver's head and the wolf nuzzled me in return. It was a painful but necessary goodbye. The strange encounter had been my biggest blessing it seemed but it was not to last. I watched as Silver's silhouette disappeared into the dense forage; never to be seen again.
