Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated on the 22nd of April every year. It started at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco in 1969. Peace activist John McConnell had proposed a day to honour the Earth and the concept of peace.

There is no doubt about it that Mother Earth is home to us all; yet we continuously ignore the well-being of this planet. Some of the steps that can be taken to tackle the destruction we have created, such as global warming, is to stop using aerosol cans that contain chlorofluorocarbon otherwise known as CFC. The usage of CFC causes the thinning of the ozone layer, allowing harmful UV rays to enter into our atmosphere. These UV rays can cause skin cancer if we are exposed to it for long periods of time.

Besides that, we can also carpool with our friends. This can help to reduce the carbon footprint we are leaving on a daily basis. The excess carbon dioxide that is trapped within the ozone layer cannot escape into outer space, trapping the heat inside and bringing up the core temperature of the Earth. This in return causes the phenomenon called global warming. The melting of the glaciers up North causes the polar bears and other animals that live there to lose their habitat.

It is only fair that we take care of planet Earth for it is our one and only home.
