The Beginning of Everything is a book written by Robyn Schneider. Published in the year 2013, it was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Young Adult Fiction. I read the book some time ago on my way for a holiday, picking it up the day before I left.
The story revolves around Ezra Faulkner, smart and born with good looks, an aspiring tennis player, and the junior class president; he was known as the 'golden boy' of Eastwood High. Everything was picture perfect, until the night his girlfriend Charlotte cheated on him and he got into a car accident. The accident shattered his knee, bringing his athletic career to an end. His confidence plummeted, he lost his friends and he lost himself.
That was the beginning of everything. For a long time, he wandered around feeling like an invalid. He was at the lowest point of his life when Cassidy Thorpe, the new transfer girl comes around; bringing in some light to his life. She was different, dressing in whatever she deemed her. He was infatuated with the girl who was nothing like the girl his ex-girlfriend was. Ezra joined the debate team, making new friends along the way. Cassidy forced him to realize that nothing had changed in his life, it was only him.
In my opinion, it was a wonderful story, a mishmash of your typical high school cliche and something much more than that. I felt that it was a very worthy read, especially for those looking for more than a typical love novel.
