Preparing for a Job Interview

There are several things that should be done in preparation for a job interview.

First thing is first, you should know what sort of job you are applying for. Is it retail or managing? There are many positions out there and when you are applying for a job, you should know what type of job you are looking for. If you do not have any knowledge on the particular job, are you really fit to do it? Take the initiative to find out what is required of you when you apply for the specific job and during the interview, ask any questions you deem necessary for you to be more well-informed.

The second thing is, it is better to be overdressed than under dressed. When going to for a job interview, most people dress smart casual or formal but it is best to dress formally. Slippers are an absolute no-no as it gives a terrible first impression to the interviewers. Instead, opt for a simple pair of flats if you are a girl and a pair of smart dress shoes if you are a guy. You often dress to impress and you can't possibly do that if you show up in a tank top and jeans.

Get a good night's sleep before the interview to ensure you are alert and fresh. It is an absolute turn off to interviewers if you are struggling to stay awake when they are trying to get a better grasp of who you are as a person and why they should hire you. Be punctual and arrive on time if not earlier to the interview site.

Other than that, try not to stutter when speaking with your interviewer. Using 'uh' and 'um' too often gives off the impression that you are not confident with whatever you are trying to say. It is best to maintain eye contact as frequently as possible and enunciate your words clearly with an eager smile. This gives the impression that you are ready and eager to learn.

Therefore, it is in fact very important to prepare for a job interview as it determines our career paths. It is difficult to get a job nowadays and it is true when they say, 'when you fail to plan, you plan to fail'.
