Form 1 students are rude and lack mannerisms that older students have when it comes to dealing with teachers and seniors. This is a very big problem. As the years go by, the number of problematic students are increasing; perhaps due to the parenting done at home but there are also several ways to ensure these problems are taken care of at school.
One of the ways is to incorporate a merit and demerit system into the school. Each student can start off with a fixed amount of merits and every disciplinary problem caused can warrant a certain amount of demerits. If the demerits exceed the merits, teachers should take action by either ringing the parents of the child or send them a warning letter.
Prevention is better than cure but most people do not take this phrase seriously. Another way is to incorporate corporal punishment. Caning students as a way of disciplining them may be seen as cruel and inhumane but sometimes a little bit of force is necessary. This should be implemented in secondary schools were delinquents and gangs start to emerge and cause problems to the school should reasoning with them not be effective.
Parents nowadays are also extremely lenient with their children, allowing almost anything and everything to slip by unnoticed by turning a blind eye to their children's behaviour. This should not be the case for this can cause some serious issues with the child being spoiled brats when they enter society, creating a generation of people who have a twisted sense of entitlement.
Besides that, students should also be given counselling sessions should the teachers who teach them deem necessary. This can actually help to curb many problems from the root. Through this method, both the child and teacher can benefit from this mutual interaction and create a safe, trusting environment for the child to express himself or herself.
Therefore, I believe that disciplinary problems can actually be taken care of with a bit of cooperation from everyone and through the right ways.
