A black Labrador
These dogs are popular, especially among families with children as they are known for their friendly temperament. With a strong, heavy built body and square proportions, the Labrador Retriever is classified as a working dog. One of their trademark characteristic features is a strong jaw set in a broad head. Labradors are large dogs with an average life span of about ten to twelve years. A healthy male Labrador is capable of growing anywhere from 57 to 62 cm in height and 29 to 36 kg in weight whereas their female counterparts weigh and measure slightly less. The colour of Labradors vary from shades of black, yellow and chocolate.
Since the 1950s, there has been a new breed of dog involving the crossing of a Labrador Retriever and a Standard, Miniature or Toy Poodle. The term coined for this breed was the 'Labradoodle', a play on both of the names of the original breeds.

These puppies have curly coats, inherited from the Poodle. Their coats are hypoallergenic, which makes them suitable pets for those with allergies.
